I Donít Remember Who You Are

I see you know me by your smile,
Although I do not understand.
You sit there talking for a while,
Your fingers gently touch my hand.
Each time you come you bring a rose,
How did you know they'd mean so much?
It doesnít matter I suppose,
Itís such lovely little touch.

While strangers come, and others go,
You walk in shining like a star,
I smile and hope it does not show,
I Donít Remember Who You Are.

I say, I know Iíve seen your face,
Way back when you were just a girl,
But I forget the time and place,
My head is always in a whirl.
Sometimes I think Iím really there,
Back when I sat you on my knee,
I still remember brushing hair Ė
Or was that someone else, not me?

Today I thought I knew your name,
I had a daughter just like you.
Iím glad you come here just the same,
Your visits brighten up the view.

You leave me with a photograph.
Could that be you, if that is me?
I see a family pause and laugh,
And there are gifts beneath a tree.
Who is that smiling like a saint?
Now thereís a man Iíd like to meet!
Iíll stand before him feeling faint,
And he can sweep me off my feet!
