Standing In The Shadows

I can see the wood smoke rising, high above the tree line;
Reminds me of your loving, and the color of your hair.
I cross the broken foot bridge, and my memory is on fire,
Of the last time that I saw you, but I know that youíre not there.

I see you standing in the doorway, smiling in the sun light,
Your mouth is like a ruby shining in the morning sun.
I take you in my arms and all our troubles turn to water,
But I am only dreaming, and my nightmare has begun.

Chorus:
And Iím standing in the shadows,
trying to get out from under,
My heart is filled with longing,
but the sky is full of rain.
Iím looking for a rainbow,
but my head is full of thunder,
And something tells me that you
wonít be coming home again.

A note lies on the dresser, in your perfect hand is written,
The reason for your leaving, but the words begin to blur.
Our pathways have divided, there are shadows come between us,
And all our little failings now are tearing like a burr.

Chorus

Bridge:
And darliní, tell me why our loving had to end this way,
We could have talked it over; waited for a better day.
I donít believe that all we had has finally come to this,
But standing in the shadows all alone Ė I know it is.

I can see the wood smoke rising, high above the tree line;
Reminds me of your loving, and the color of your hair.
I cross the broken foot bridge, and the skyline is on fire,
I turn my back on past regrets, and I get away from there.
Yes, I turn my back on past regrets, and I get away from there.
